Another day, another musical involving Lin-Manuel Miranda – but this time he’s directing Andrew Garfield and Alexandra Shipp – who’ve been spotted filming a romantic scene – in the movie adaptation of Tick, Tick… BOOM!

The musical is a semi-autobiographical piece from late composer and playwright Jonathan Larson, who endures a midlife crisis as he approaches 30 and does not feel close to his dream.

Andrew is playing Jonathan, who died just as he was about to achieve great success with the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent in 1996.

Alexandra stars as his girlfriend Susan, a dancer and ballet teacher.

The film is Lin Manuel-Miranda’s directorial debut and initially started shooting in March 2020 before the pandemic forced production to shut down the following month.

Having picked up principal photography again in the autumn, the cast and crew are currently busy with reshoots on location in Brooklyn.

Dressed in 90s-style black jeans, Andrew and Alexandra were seen laughing and getting close as they appeared to shoot a romantic scene, with the pair playing a couple.

At one stage the Spider-Man star, dressed in a patterned blue shirt, hugged his on-screen girlfriend from behind and leaned in towards her as the actress threw back her head and laughed.

They were also seen nose-to-nose as Alexandra threw her arm around her co-star’s neck, with him carefully holding a plastic cup of amber liquid.

The duo then got close enough for what we assume will be an on screen kiss.

All in all, it looked like they were having a delightful time filming their scenes.

There were also action shots, with Alexandra chasing Andrew around the corner of a graffitied brick wall, where they later continued working.

We were also treated to a preview of some dancing from both, as Alexandra stood elegantly on her tiptoes with her arms outstretched – showcasing a matching burgundy T-shirt and cross-body bag, as well as befitting her part as a dancer.

But Andrew was also keen to bust a move, performing a grapevine step behind her in his era-appropriate black Converse high tops.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is currently busy promoting the film version of his musical In The Heights, which releases in UK cinemas this week.

Tick, Tick… BOOM! is slated for release in cinemas and on Netflix in late 2021.
