Emmerdale’s Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) pleaded with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) to cancel his wedding to Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).
And she did so via five drunken voicemails!
Tonight’s edition of the ITV soap saw the legend purposely arrange lunch with mum Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen) up at The HOP, in the hope of bumping into groom-to-be Liam, whose stag do was taking place at the outdoor pursuit centre.
Bernice’s wish came true, albeit after several large glasses of wine, as she shared something of a moment with the man of her dreams.
And in spite of Diane telling her to leave things be, the soap stalwart refused to do so, as she resolved to tell Liam how she really felt.
Bernice, however, wasn’t quite sure what to say, and therefore left not one, but five drunken voicemails on his phone!
‘Hi, Dr Cavanagh,’ she cheerily said during the first message. ‘It’s me Bernice. It was so lovely to see you today. Goodbye.’
Not satisfied, she decided to give it another shot!
‘Hi Liam. I don’t know why I called you Dr Cavanagh,’ she explained. ‘That was weird! Anyway, everything is fine with me! How about you? Right. Well. Ciao!’
Horrified by her use of ‘Ciao’, Bernice concluded that another voicemail was in order to better explain the situation. That is, until she reconsidered halfway through her monologue!
‘Hi, look what I really wanted to say, and don’t take this the wrong way, but when I said that everything is fine with me… well, I don’t know, is it?,’ she continued, ‘I mean, it was and then I saw you, and… No! This is pointless, and it’s wrong, ignore me! Delete this! Delete all of these messages immediately!’
Feeling guilty, Bernice then dialled Liam again to simply add: ‘Sorry!’
The fear, however, set in, as she pondered a future without the man of her dreams.
And with that, she decided to drop one more message to Liam’s inbox, and this time, she said exactly what it was that she’s been longing to say since setting foot back in the village last month.
‘Liam, I’m going to say what we both know you’ve been waiting for me to say: Don’t marry her! You’re making a terrible, terrible mistake! I love you!’
Will Bernice’s efforts pay off? Will she successfully stop the wedding and win Liam back?
What’s more, will she come to regret her drunken voicemails?
Emmerdale continues Thursday June 17 at 8pm on ITV. All of this week’s episodes are now streaming on ITV Hub due to scheduling disruptions caused by Euro 2020.
