A children’s football coach has been arrested over a racist tweet directed at England star Marcus Rashford. 

Nick Scott was detained on suspicion of inciting racial hatred after Twitter users flagged a post from his account telling the Manchester United player to ‘get to ya own country’. 

The 50-year-old has denied sending the message and insists his account was ‘hacked’. 

He has since been released under investigation. 

The tweet from Scott’s account was posted minutes after Rashford, awarded an MBE last year for his anti-poverty campaigning, missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 defeat to Italy on Sunday night. 

It read: ‘Marcus Rashford that MBE needs burning ya fake. Pack them bags and get to ya own country.’

Scott, from Powick, near Worcester, previously denied posting it, telling Sun Online: ‘I didn’t send it mate – I’ve been hacked. I didn’t post it. 

‘The first I learned about it was this morning when I woke up. I’m seeing my solicitor in the morning. I don’t know who hacked me.’ 

West Mercia Police said a 50-year-old man had been detained on suspicion of inciting racial hatred following reports of an inappropriate tweet posted on Sunday.

They did not name the man, but said he has since been released under investigation. 

The police say the man, who they have not named, has since been released under investigation. 

Inspector Pete Nightingale said: ‘We encourage people to make these reports and are pleased with the speed at which we have been able to deal with this incident. 

‘We continue to work with the local football community and have links with the local clubs to ensure that this behaviour is dealt with appropriately.’
