Hollywood actor brothers Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson lived together for the first time ‘in a long time’ while working on their respective superhero TV shows, DC’s Stargirl and Loki, the God of Mischief from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The youngest Wilson sibling Luke, 49, who plays former Justice Society of America sidekick Pat Dugan on DC’s Stargirl, revealed their living arrangements as the brothers found themselves working in the same city at the same time.
In a virtual press conference for DC’s Stargirl, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Luke told press that the two had shared a house for just over a month, joking: ‘I don’t know if you’ve ever lived with anyone in the Marvel universe but odd people. Very, very odd people.’
While Luke worked on his DC project, Owen, 52, was portraying Time Variance Authority agent Mobius M. Mobius in rival comic book property Marvel’s Loki for Disney Plus.
However, despite their living under one roof, Luke admitted he ‘never got the plot’ of Loki despite it being ‘explained to me a number of times’ – although he did call their shacking up together ‘very fun’.
He later added: ‘It really was fun to live together. We hadn’t done that in a long time. I mean, we see each other all the time but to be on location in the same town, living in the same house was a lot of fun.’
The Legally Blonde star also pointed out the parallels between their positions, as it was the first time for both working on a superhero project and on a show and he praised both projects as ‘great’, while sharing that Owen had ‘really enjoyed working with Tom Hiddleston’.
When asked about any rivalry between the two of them as actors, Luke nixed any talk of it but shared that Owen’s sons might be more partial to his show, which is about to air its second series in the US, over their father’s.
‘I don’t know that we had a rivalry but, I mean, he has two sons and they watch both shows,’ Luke said.
‘I feel like I detected a little more enthusiasm for Stargirl but I don’t know, I might just have been projecting that.’
Loki has been renewed for a second series, with scope to explore Mobius’ backstory more after the twist ending shocked fans.
Both brothers have enjoyed successful careers in Hollywood, with Owen appearing in films including Marley and Me, Wedding Crashers and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Alongside Legally Blonde, where he played Emmett Richmond, Luke has also appeared in Wes Anderson projects including Rushmore (co-written by Owen) and The Royal Tenenbaums.
From 2011 to 2013 he starred opposite Laura Dern in HBO show Enlightened.
The pair have an older brother, Andrew Wilson, 56, who is also an actor and director. He’s appeared alongside his brothers in films like Bottle Rocket and Rushmore, as well as separate credits Fever Pitch and Whip It!.
The three collaborated on 2005 comedy The Wendell Baker Story, which was directed by Andrew and Luke and starred Luke in the main role with Owen in support.
DC’s Stargirl series two returns at 8pm ET/PT on August 10 on The CW. Loki has been renewed for a second series on Disney+.
