Wolves star Ruben Neves has distanced himself from speculation that he could be set for a big-money summer move, insisting he’s ‘really happy’ to work with new manager Bruno Lage and ‘completely focused’ on the season ahead.

Neves notched up five goals and an assist in the Premier League last term and his performances across the campaign have reportedly made him a target for both Arsenal and Manchester United.

Reports last month claimed Arsenal had held talks with Neves’ agent, Jorge Mendes, over a potential deal, while the 24-year-old midfielder has also been identified as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

However, Neves – who still has three years remaining on his current contract with Wolves – appears to have ruled out a transfer move as the club step up their preparations for the new season under Lage, Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor at Molineux.

Asked about his new boss, the Neves told Wolves TV: ‘He is a very good coach. I am really happy to work with him,’ Neves told Wolves TV.

‘I spoke with a few friends when he signed for Wolves – that were players in Benfica and are good friends of mine – and they said a lot of good things about him.

‘He’s a very good coach with lots of good ideas. I think that when things are completely together, we’ll be a really hard team to beat.’

Neves stressed that he was fully concentrated on Wolves’ forthcoming campaign as he brushed off the rumours surrounding his future in the wake of the side’s pre-season victory over Coventry City.

‘When you want to play at the highest level of football you have to be ready,’ the former Porto star said.

‘It’s my job and I need to work hard. I had a great time with family and now I’m completely focused here, to be fit for the start of the Premier League. It’s about pre-season and hard work – getting fit for the Premier League. That’s the main thing.

‘We are getting the ideas of the new coach and I think we are doing well. We have a lot to improve but I think we are doing a great job. We still have two weeks – it’s a good time to train and improve. Let’s go for it!

‘We are working all together. The players from the national teams came back one week ago and you can see already the results on the pitch.

‘We’ll improve a lot in the two weeks in front of us and that’s the main target, improve as much as we can for the first game. It’s the Premier League and everyone knows every team is a hard game. Leicester will be a really good test for us.

‘The main thing is to work hard in these two weeks to get completely concentrated on what we have to do, and fit to try and get the first three points of the season.’
